Most manufacturers recommend that the air conditioning system is serviced every two years in order to replenish the liquids used by the system and to ensure all components are working correctly. Your car manual will give you the specific requirements for your car.
Air conditioning and climate control systems are now fitted as standard and get used not only in the summer months to keep the temperatures cool, but also in the winter months as an essential part of the demisting process.
Over time, these systems can lose their efficiency, and it is estimated that at least 10% of air conditioning gas permeates from the system in the course of a year, so if your vehicle is two years or older then the chances are that your systems need looking at.
In addition to the loss of gas, these systems are an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and micro-organisms, mould and fungi, which can be hazardous, especially to those who suffer from allergies and the like and can even create some unpleasant odours in your vehicle.
The servicing and cleansing of your systems is not covered by routine vehicle servicing.
If you haven't had your air conditioning serviced in the last 2 years, it's probably time you did!
